The start of a new year is when people are driven and willing to sit down and look at what’s working and what needs to be reworked.
A clean slate is more than just exciting – it’s a prime opportunity to clarify who your organization is and what it stands for, allowing for disciplined planning.
People give for two reasons: to change a life or to save a life.
Does your organization’s message clearly state how you are changing lives or saving lives?
This is a must.
As you recenter your message, consider the following:
- What is your vision and profile?
Paint a picture of what your ministry does or a story of the difference you’re making in people’s lives. How did you get here? What were the key milestones along the way? What are you working on now? What is your strategy?
- What is the giving, driven part of the plan?
What are you specifically looking to fund at the moment? What progress have you made? What are you immediately focusing on? Which could be your near turn milestone?
To solidify the impact of your updated message, I personally recommend implementing the weekly discipline of updating your core four goals.
Most ministries beat donors over the heads with budgets, budgets, budgets. While there is a time and place to discuss your organization’s budget, what donors are motivated by is seeing ministries with long-term plans in place. Here’s the number, and here’s what’s needed to achieve this goal.
- Long-Term Giving Goal
- End of the Year Goal
- Near Term Milestone
- Halfway Through the Year Goal
Updated messaging paired with focused monitoring guarantees your ministry will both change and save lives. Keep moving forward. This year looks bright!
